Information we handle

Browsing sends standard technical data such as your IP address, user agent, and request time. If you sign in with Discord or X, we receive your provider ID, display name, and profile image when available.

We do not request your provider email; the authentication system creates a non-deliverable internal address for your account record. X sign-in uses read scopes to request your current profile. We also store encrypted provider credentials, session records, and account activity such as balances, positions, trades, ledger entries, the markets you open, moderation, and resolutions.

How we use it

We use this information to authenticate accounts, operate markets, keep balances accurate, resolve outcomes, secure the service, and investigate errors. Your signed-in user ID or IP address may be used for short-lived rate-limit counters, including the limit on how many markets an account can open each hour.

Discord or X and the providers hosting the web app, API, database, and rate-limit service—including Vercel and Railway—process relevant data under their own privacy terms.

Public information

Markets, prices, outcomes, recent trade activity, and current or final play-money share positions are public. Any market text you write is public the moment the market opens; nothing you write is reviewed before it appears. Market pages may identify position holders by their Phonymarket user ID, display name, and profile image and show their current or final YES and NO share amounts. The public leaderboard includes the same identity fields, play-money portfolio value, and profit. Public trade activity may also show whether you bought or sold, the selected outcome, amount, market, and trade time. Authentication data—including provider credentials and session records—is not public. Phonymarket does not directly publish provider account IDs, although provider-hosted profile-image URLs may contain provider identifiers. Phonymarket does not publish your ledger history.

Cookies and retention

Public markets can be browsed without signing in. Phonymarket uses an essential authentication cookie, and a pending trade may be kept temporarily in the current browser tab. No advertising or analytics service is configured. Signing out ends the current session.

Trade, ledger, moderation, and resolution history may be retained to keep the play-money record accurate. Corrections and voids add new records instead of rewriting those trades, ledger entries, and resolution audits. Voiding a market does delete the holdings it created, because every trade behind them has been reversed.
